On 11th October 2022, AGIP hosted our first Community of Practice event: ‘Safeguarding for meaningful engagement with adolescent girls’. This took place during the the 24-Hour Virtual Forum organised by Plan International to celebrate International Day of the Girl 2022.
The event highlights the need for strengthened safeguarding practices in the social development sector with respect to meaningful engagement with adolescent girls. The multi-stakeholder workshop brought together adolescent girls, youth, development practitioners, girls’ rights activists, allies, and funders to openly discuss challenges, share experiences and best practices with the intention to collectively advance the existing safeguarding practices in the social development sector.
The summary report includes contributions made by the participants. We hope that the recommendations, stories, activism, and lived experiences of adolescent girls and girls’ rights allies will continue to transform the safeguarding practices in the sector. AGIP’s Safeguarding Checklist is a useful tool to put the recommendations from the report into practice. Please contact us if you’d like to engage with similar events in the future.
