Girls’ education is significant because it brings forth progress that goes far beyond improving the literacy rates. When individual empowerment is recognised through education, the gradual progress of a country is visible.  

The need for greater advocacy and action on children’s rights, especially on girls’ education remains relevant all year around. Here is a brief reflection from the Workshop I organised on the World’s Children Day just last year highlighting the experiencing of my peers coming together on our shared passion for girls’ education.

My UNGA Journey: Empowering Adolescent Girls on the Global Stage

I am Misati, an adolescent girl from Kenya associated with the Northern Women Empowerment Initiative (NOWEI) Kenya. Thanks to the support of AMPLIFY Girls and the Adolescent Girls Investment Plan (AGIP), I had the incredible opportunity to participate in events at the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly and related meetings held in New York from 15 – 23 September 2023. 

In today’s world, we are confronted with numerous crises, issues, and conflicts.

Amid all these challenges, adolescent girls and young women, who have often been marginalized throughout their lives, continue to silently endure without the hope of change; in fact, their situations seem to be deteriorating.

International Youth Day 2023

The need for holistic shifts towards more sustainable development practices has been urgent for decades now, but the collective efforts on green transition have remained slower than needed.  

The first International Youth Day (IYD) was observed in the year 2000 and since then, the world has continued to celebrate IYD every year on 12th of August to recognise and forefront the innovative leadership of young activists.
